SBL Players of the Week (7/10-7/17)

Date:  Source: Sunset Baseball League

Junior-to-be Phil Steering (Hawaii Hilo) put up gaudy video game-esque numbers for the past week and earned the player of the week in the SBL. Last week, Steering went 13-for-20, which is an astounding .650 BA, and belted three home runs, cranked in six RBI and scored seven runs.

Steering is a big reason why the OC Surf are right in the thick of the playoff hunt. The Surf's push to the inaugural SBL playoffs continues Tuesday with a home contest against the Inland Valley Pirates at 4:30 p.m. at Valencia High School. The game will be broadcast live. Check twitter as well as our homepage for the link on Tuesday morning.

The pitcher of the week goes to the Solana Beach Cardinals' Jonathan Vizcaino.

Vizcaino (Palomar College) tossed a six inning gem against the OC Surf in conference play only allowing four hits and one run, while striking out two. Solana Beach currently is in first place of the SBL South with a magic number of 1 to make the playoffs. They will try to accomplish that feat Tuesday night at Jackie Robinson Field against the Arroyo Seco Saints at 6:00 p.m.
