Sparrows Newest Addition to SBL

The OC Surf took a 1-0 series lead with a 7-3 victory over the Signal Hill Oilers in Game 1 of the Sunset Semifinals at Long Beach City College on Tuesday evening.
The Oilers actually got out to a quick 2-0 start behind a two-run homer from Reese Berberet in the first inning before the Surf tied it up at 2 apiece in the third.
Anthony Sommers settled down for the Surf after the first inning and only allowed one unearned run as he went a strong five innings of work allowing just three hits.
Signal Hill went back to work plating one in the fourth to regain the lead at 3-2.
The Surf broke it open in the sixth with a three-run inning and took the lead for the first time by a score of 5-3. They added one insurance run in each of the seventh and eighth innings.
Luke Hussung finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Nashea Diggs was 2-for-2 with two runs. Phil Steering was 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Andris Rizquez and Brett Thompson each knocked in one RBI. Andrew Ramos also scored once.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in Game 2 at 2 p.m. at Concordia University.
