Sparrows Newest Addition to SBL
Date: Nov 26, 2016
The South Bay Sliders are currently the hottest team in the Sunset Baseball League. Winners of their last three SBL games, they just defeated the OC Surf 6-3 and 1-0 in a double header Sunday afternoon at El Camino College.
In the first game of that double header, the Sliders were powered by a dominant pitching performance by three Sliders: Walker Marks (Occidental) went 4.1 innings pitched allowing only one run on four hits while striking out six. After Marks, the lefty Rigo Fernandez (CSU Dominguez Hills) threw 3.1shutout innings. Fernandez was followed by Nick Sablock (CSU Northridge) who slammed the door on the Surf.
Nick Sablock also led the way at the plate going 3-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Game two was all about Scott Savage (Masters College) and his gutsy pitching performance. The RHP went 8.2 shutout innings scattering just five hits, leading the Sliders to a 1-0 victory over the best offensive team in the SBL. Sophomore Matthew Green (McPherson College) entered the game to record the one out save and preserve the Sliders sweep.
The Sliders scored their lone run when Jake Sahagien (Sonoma State) drove in Reese Alexiadies (Pepperdine) who reached on a hit by pitch earlier in the inning.
The Sliders hope to continue their hot streak Monday July 11th as they take on the OC Surf at Valencia High School. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30pm.
