Gross nets hat trick, leads Armstrong to 9-3 win over Penn-Trafford

Luke Gross netted a hat trick to lead Armstrong over Penn-Trafford, 9-3.

Gross' first goal came 5:41 into the second period. He then added goals at 11:14 into the second and at 6:50 into the third.

Penn-Trafford's power play was ineffective against Armstrong's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Armstrong put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Penn-Trafford to score on any of its seven power plays. Armstrong kept Penn-Trafford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alec Pevornik made 28 saves on 37 shots. Armstrong surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Armstrong averages 6.3 goals per game. Armstrong got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Armstrong could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Armstrong additionally got points from Nicholas Long, who also registered one goal and two assists and Donovan Wichowski, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Armstrong included Tanner Stivason, Easton Hooks, Jacob Gross, and Giovanni Romeo, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Armstrong were Jacob Toy, who had two and David Contrael, Zachary Kutch, Jace Rearic, Nicholas Benvenuti, Brandon Choncek, and Herik Milliron, who contributed one each.

Penn-Trafford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game.

Penn-Trafford was led by Benjamin Lasich, who finished with two goals and one assist. Lasich scored the first of his two goals at 5:30 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Armstrong. Matthew Simkovic assisted on the tally. Lasich's next tally made the score 7-3 Armstrong with 6:29 left in the third period. Penn-Trafford also got a goal from Samuel Costellic as well. In addition, Penn-Trafford received assists from Ashton Adamek, who had one.

Jacob Lorigan rejected 14 shots on goal for Armstrong. Armstrong registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For Penn-Trafford, Thomas Byrne was ejected from the game.
