Penn-Trafford's comeback falls short, Hempfield wins 6-4

Hempfield came close to giving away a three-goal lead to Penn-Trafford, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Hempfield led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Hempfield's Christian Gorscak scored at 49 seconds in the third period to put Hempfield up 5-2.

Gorscak and Jared Gerger provided the spark for Hempfield, combining for three goals and four assists. Gorscak registered two goals and two assists and Gerger also notched one goal and two assists.

Hempfield managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Hempfield wound up below its season average of 10.0 penalty minutes per game. Hempfield's offense rang up 34 shots on Penn-Trafford's net. Hempfield bested its season scoring average. This season, Hempfield averages 3.5 goals per contest.

Hempfield also got points from Gerger, who also had one goal and two assists and Kane Mills, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Hempfield also had goals scored by Dominic Schimizzi and Matthew Bartus, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hempfield were Nick Negich and Andrew Koziara, who contributed one each.

Penn-Trafford was led by Nathan Mickey, who finished with two goals and two assists. Mickey scored the first of his two goals at 14:22 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hempfield. Ashton Adamek picked up the assist. Mickey's next tally made the score 5-3 Hempfield with 12:05 left in the third period. Others who scored for Penn-Trafford included Matthew Simkovic and Nicholas Gismondi, who scored one goal each. In addition, Penn-Trafford received assists from Thomas Byrne and Tyler Hufnagel, who each chipped in one.

Hempfield's Sean Lanager stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Hempfield registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Reno Patrick recorded 28 saves for Penn-Trafford. Penn-Trafford incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
