The Newport Gulls (19-5) and the North Adams SteepleCats (15-11) each put runners in scoring position on Monday, but the Newport Gulls capitalized on more RBI opportunities, pulling out a 7-6 win at Cardines Field.

The Newport Gulls staved off the North Adams SteepleCats as the North Adams SteepleCats were unable to match the Newport Gulls down the stretch.

The North Adams SteepleCats scored three runs in the ninth on two doubles and a groundout by Shane Klemcke. Still, the North Adams SteepleCats couldn't draw even.

Kasey Coffman racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Newport Gulls. He doubled in the second and fourth innings.

Daniel Wright got the win, running his season record to 5-0. He allowed three runs over seven innings. Wright struck out three, walked one and gave up eight hits.

Charlie Law ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed six runs in six innings, walked four and struck out 10.
