A switch-hitter hailing from the heart of Texas, Shane Klemcke will head to North Adams with teammate Will Klausing looking to add a spark to the SteepleCats lineup.
After transferring from Wharton Junior College, Klemcke was a regular in the UTPA lineup as a junior, appearing in 47 games with 34 hits while driving in 19 runs. A natural shortstop, Klemcke spent some time in the outfield this season when the rest of his team went down with injuries, thus further proving his versatility in the SteepleCats lineup. This followed a season in which he hit .314 with six doubles, 21 RBI and 35 runs scored for Wharton in 2011.
In 2011, Klemcke was a member of the Coppell Copperheads in the Texas Collegiate League. He finished third on the team with a .338 batting average on 25 hits with three doubles, two triples and eight RBI. He went 6-for-10 in stolen bases, as well.
The son of Ron and Debbie Klemcke, Shane was born Aug. 17, 1990. He has one brother, Tanner, and one sister, Courtney. He is pursuing a major in marketing/kinesiology.
