Stags Hockey is Heading Back to Nationals!
Date: Feb 27, 2019

The Stags had a full schedule this past weekend, playing games Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night.
First up was Maritime. The Stags were away for this one, playing at Terry Conners at 9pm Friday night. The Stags started off strong, with junior Sam Rice scoring a goal on his first shift on the ice within the first 4 minutes. Starting a streak 10 minutes into the first, junior Scott Kohlhepp was able to score three in a row, putting the Stags up 4-0 by the time it was midway through the second period. The Stags ultimately won the game 9-3, with another goal by Kohlhepp, two by senior captain Matt Peacock, and two by freshman Owen Gleeson. Besides our scorers, senior JP O'Malley, senior Cormac Kennedy, and sophomore Kyle Marano played well and were able to get a few assists of their own.
Next, the Stags took on formerly-undefeated California University of Pennsylvania. Cal U was the first to score in this game, leaving the Stags down 1-0 at the end of the first. Midway through the second period, the Stags were able to tie it up with a goal from freshman Owen Gleeson. A few minutes later, they were able to get ahead with a beauty from freshman Michael Jordan. The Stags left the 2nd period up 2-1, and entered the third ready to play their hardest. Less than two minutes into the period, freshman Frank Wedge scored with an assist from Mike Knightly. The score now 3-1, the period started to wind down but not before junior Scott Kohlhepp could put in two more for the Stags, bumping the score to 5-1. This 5-1 win not only got two points for the Stags, but also ended Cal U’s undefeated record, bumping them to 7-1.
Sunday night, the Stags made their way to face off against D2-Army. The Stags weren’t able to find the net this game, and headed home with a 4-0 loss for the night, but a 2-1 record for the weekend.
Coming up, the Stags are playing their next game at Albany on Friday November 11th at 9:20pm. The weekend after, they will be heading off to the Empire Classic in Warwick, PA. Stay tuned for updates here, or on our twitter feed @StagsHockey. Go Stags!
