Ice Hawks take ice without coach on the bench

The Rochester Ice Hawks continued their skid in North American Tier 3 Hockey League play on Friday as they dropped an 8-2 decision to the Twin City Steel at the Rochester Recreation Center.
The Ice Hawks have now lost seven straight games and a just 10-29-1 this season.
Friday's game was scoreless after one period and then the Ice Hawks had a disastrous middle stanza. The Twin City Steel scored seven goals in the second period, by seven different players, to take a 7-1 lead.
Trey McMillen scored for the Ice Hawks, on assists from Vladislav Shipota and Nick Paulson, to even the game at 1-1. The Steel then scored six straight goals, including three in a span of a minute and 10 seconds. Three of the six goals were on the power play.
Rochester trailed 8-1 when Evan Sabo scored on the power play, and with an extra attacker, with just one second left in the game. Dominik Bogdzuil and Trey McMillen assisted on the goal.
Twin City held a 47-20 shots advantage. Ice Hawks goalie Kyle Plantz had 39 saves.
The two teams finish a home-and-road series with a 7 p.m. game today at White Bear Lake.
