The Rochester Ice Hawks took the ice for Game 2 of their opening-round NA3HL league playoff series tonight without Nick Fatis on the bench.
The team's veteran head coach is taking a temporary medical leave. Fatis has been suffering all season from symptoms of post-concussion syndrome, and "things have gotten significantly worse in the last three weeks," said his father, team president and general manager Michael "Doc" Fatis.
"We needed to get him off stressful duties and give him some time to heal."
Nick is consulting Mayo Clinic with his medical situation.
Eric Hofmann is interim head coach until Nick is able to return.
North Iowa won the first game of the series 10-1 Friday night. If the Ice Hawks lose tonight, the series -- and their season -- is over. If they win, a third game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sunday back at North Iowa's home rink in Mason City.
