Ice Hawks take ice without coach on the bench
Date: Mar 19, 2016

The Rochester Ice Hawks snapped their five-game losing streak in convincing fashion on Friday, and they did so against a team that beat them up just a week ago.
Five players scored once each for the Ice Hawks as they rolled to a 5-1 North American 3 Hockey League victory against the Wisconsin Whalers at the Rochester Recreation Center. The victory comes on the heels of Rochester's two losses to the Whalers last weekend, by a combined score of 14-0.
Friday, Rochester goalie Zach Mains assured the Ice Hawks their losing streak wouldn't hit six. He stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced, including 14 in the first period. Wisconsin outshot the Ice Hawks 35-31 in the game.
A pair of Rochester John Marshall graduates were key contributors for Rochester. Hunter Heightland had a goal and an assist, and Nick Paulson had a goal and two assists.
Heightland's goal was the first of the game, a short-handed tally with assists from Ben Koester and Trey McMillen. Paulson then assisted on Colby DeCarlo's goal 6:09 into the second, which held up as the game winner.
Dominik Bogdzuil and Collin Hass also scored for Rochester (10-23-1 overall).
Peter Henderson scored the lone goal for Wisconsin (22-12-0), a power-play goal in the second period.
The teams are scheduled to meet again at 7:05 p.m. tonight at the Rec Center.
