The Rochester Ice Hawks struggled mightily Saturday, suffering a 9-0 loss to the Wisconsin Whalers at the Rochester Recreation Center.

In two games against the Whalers over the weekend, the Ice Hawks did not score a goal and were outscored 14-0.

During Saturday's blowout loss, the Ice Hawks trailed just 1-0 after the opening period. But the Whalers scored seven times in the second to put the game away.

Zach Mains surrendered the first four goals and suffered the loss in net for the Ice Hawks. He stopped 13 of 17 shots. Kyle Plantz came on in relief, stopping 18 of 23 shots.

The Whalers held a 40-25 edge in shots on goal, including 26-11 in the second period alone.

The Ice Hawks dropped to 9-23-1 and return to action Friday at home in a rematch against the Whalers, who wrapped up a playoff spot with their win Saturday and are now 22-11-0
