Bolzano uses early goal to top Val Pusteria, 3-1

Marco Insam scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Bolzano Foxes held off the challenges of the Val Pusteria Lupi in a tough 3-1 win.

Bolzano took over the lead for good with a goal by Insam at 2:58 in the first period. Anton Bernard picked up the assist.

Val Pusteria was stymied by the Foxes netminder Matthew Zaba, who stopped 37 shots during the victory. The solid play of Zaba will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.31.

Bolzano was led by Christian Walcher, who finished with one goal. Walcher scored 8:00 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Bolzano. Jordan Knackstedt provided the assist.

The Foxes excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Bolzano also got a goal from MacGregor Sharp as well. In addition, Bolzano received assists from Stefan Zisser, who had one.

The Lupi stifled Bolzano's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Val Pusteria did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Lupi average 3.5 goals per game.

Val Pusteria was led by Max Oberrauch, who scored the team's only goal. Oberrauch scored 13:06 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Bolzano. David Ling assisted on the tally.

The Foxes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mikko Stromberg recorded 18 saves for the Lupi. Val Pusteria incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
