Former Big 10 Star Signs with Storm
Date: Sep 27, 2013
On Tuesday, Mississauga Power head coach Fred Grannum met with the Mississauga community at Hoops Bar & Grill. Coach Grannum, the former assistant coach at Humber College introduced himself to the crowd and was warmly greeted.
The Power formally announced that they have signed free agent guard Jonathan Semira for the 2013-2014 season. Semira has had experiences playing in Western University, San Sebastian College in the Philippines & has recently played semi-professionally in the PBA D-League.
Semira, a 6'1 guard stated that "[He is] really excited to join the Mississauga Power and hope that [his] winning attitude, leadership and experiences will translate to a lot of wins for the team!"
Coach Grannum was delighted about the signing, expressing: "We welcome Jon to the Mississauga Power family. He is a veteran point guard who has pro basketball experience that he will bring to the Mississauga Power. We will be looking at his leadership on and off the court and will need him to execute our offensive and defensive systems"
Semira has demonstrated great leadership, ball-handling and the ability to knock down 3 pointers recently at the MegaCity Power Pro-Am at Ryerson University and as a member of the Power Canadian Development Team (PCDT) that played at the Four Nations Tournament in China this past summer.
The Power also announced the signing of free agent 6'9 centre Dusan Virijevic at the event. The Serbian big man has had experiences playing professionally in Iran, Greece & Slovenia.
Virijevic recently made Canada his home and joined the MegaCity Power Pro-Am in hopes of landing a spot to play professionally for the Mississauga Power. Virijevic showed his dominance and versatility by tallying up multiple double doubles as well as showing the ability to knock down 3 pointers and making great passes. His performance at the MegaCity Power Pro-Am was rewarded by being selected for the All-Star game. "I watched Dusan play at the MegaCity Power Pro-Am this summer. He is a very good defender and rebounder who uses his body very well around the basket. Dusan's finishing ability and versatility will play a significant part in our quest for the NBL Championship" stated head coach Fred Grannum.
Virijevic also played with the Power Canadian Development Team in China for the Four Nations tournament in July & August, where he further demonstrated his skills. "The Mississauga Power are a great organization and I am so excited to play for them. The Power gave me an opportunity to play against some of the top competition in China and I really improved" stated Virijevic.
The Mississauga Power would like to thank Hoops Bar & Grill for making the event a slam dunk!
