Storm Welcomes Jamarcus Ellis
Charlottetown - Sept 27/13
The Island Storm continue their signing of quality players with the announcement of Jamarcus Ellis's addition to their training camp roster, pending FIBA clearance.
Ellis, a 6'5", 195 lbs Small Forward out of Chicago, brings a wealth of experience and accolades to Prince Edward Island. A stand-out from 2001-2005 at Westinghouse High School, Ellis was named Chicago's 2004 Public League High School Player of the Year, and led Westinghouse to two city titles in 2002 and 2004.
His collegiate career began with Chipola Junior College (NJCAA), where he was named the 2007 National JUCO Player of the Year. Ellis led Chipola to a 33-3 record and a 2nd place finish in the NJCAA National Tournament. In his sophomore season, Ellis averaged 17.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game, before being named 1st Team JUCO All-American.
Following his two seasons at Chipola, Ellis headed to Indiana University in the Big 10, where he started all 32 games for the Hoosiers in his first season, averaging 6.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, before being named an honorable mention to the All Big 10 Team in 2007.
According to Storm Head Coach Joe Salerno, Ellis is a rare find.
"Jamarcus Ellis is a talent that only comes around every so often. He was a tremendous find for us while we were in Chicago this summer. Al Stewart has played on the same summer league team as him for quite some time now, and had been telling us Jamarcus was a guy we had to come look at. He has an off-the-charts IQ for the game, with all the physical attributes to go along with it. I think Jamarcus could be a big-time impact player in the NBL, and he is now ready to really start his professional career. We are excited to have him on board."
Ellis was drafted in the 3rd Round (44th overall) of the 2009 NBA D-League Draft by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers but suffered a knee injury early in the pre-season.
The Storm open their training camp in mid-October, with an exhibition game at home (at UPEI) on Friday, October 25 vs the Saint John Mill Rats. The Storm will then travel for another pre-season contest versus the Halifax Rainmen on Sunday, October 27.
