The Southampton Breakers clinched the #2 seed in the HCBL playoffs with a 7-5 win over the Shelter Island Bucks on Friday at Fiske Field.

Shelter Island got out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a three-run home run from Matt Holmes (Husson), which was his fifth home run of the season.

The Breakers got a run in the top of the second on a bases-loaded walk to Lukas Egenhauser (Montclair St.). Shelter Island would get the run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple from Billy Fluharty (Bucknell) to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Bucks.

Southampton would get three runs in the top of the third on a pair of walks and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded and two outs. Shelter Island would regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice bunt from Tobey Roberts (Emerson) that scored Jack Vallario (Fordham), putting the Bucks up 5-4.

The Breakers would take the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run hit by catcher Derek Diaz (Le Moyne) to lead 6-5. Southampton would get an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a solo home run from Tim Denet (Le Moyne).

Dylan Rorech (Villanova), who came on in relief of Luke Beyer (Hamilton) in the bottom of the fifth, faced a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. On a 3-2 pitch, Rorech would catch Jack Vallario looking to end the game and give Southampton home-field advantage in the Semifinal round. Beyer, who pitched 3.1 innings of relief for Southampton, earned the win.

The Breakers will play the third-seeded South Shore Clippers in Game 1 of the HCBL Semifinals on Thursday at Southampton High School.

Shelter Island remains two points behind Sag Harbor for the last playoff spot in the HCBL. Shelter Island needs to win their regular season finale against the Breakers in Southampton on Tuesday, and a Sag Harbor loss to Westhampton to clinch the #4 seed in the HCBL playoffs.
