Girillo/Reilly Combine for Clippers' Second No-Hitter in Five Days

Date:  Source: Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League

For the fourth time in the 2025 HCBL season and the second time in five days, the South Shore Clippers threw a no-hitter. Luke Girillo (Washington (MD) and James Reilly (New Haven) combined for a five-inning mercy rule no-hitter as the South Shore Clippers defeated the Sag Harbor Whalers by a score of 16-3.

Girillo went four no-hit innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth with South Shore up 16-0 and needing three outs to complete the no-hitter. Girillo threw three straight walks to load the bases as the Clippers turned to Reilly to complete the no-hitter.

Reilly would get the first out but would allow back-to-back walks as the Whalers brought in two runs. Reilly would get a pop-up for the second out and then get Jared Shear to ground into a fielder’s choice to give South Shore their second no-hitter of the season.

Earlier in the week on July 13th, Conor Burns (St. John’s) and Dean Ennis (Utica) combined on a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 Clippers win against Shelter Island. Sag Harbor tossed the HCBL’s two other no-hitters in 2025 against Shelter Island on June 19th and against Westhampton on June 27th.

Everyone on the South Shore lineup had at least one RBI and run scored in the game. Larry Hotaling (Villanova) had three RBI while Matt Gileno (Riverside CC) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Gileno also had a double and a stolen base. Ryan Adams (St. John’s) had a pair of RBI and doubles.
