NEWPORT, R.I. - In one of their most exciting wins of the season, the Valley Blue Sox completed a four-run comeback victory to defeat the Division-leading Newport Gulls, 6-6, in extra innings Wednesday night at Cardines Field.

Valley got the show started early thanks to Gavin Schrader giving Valley a 1-0 lead early in the first inning. The Gulls were not concerned about Valley's fast start as Matthew Bolton and Michael Gupton crossed home plate to give Newport a 2-1 lead.

Newport was not done as they extended their advantage with runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Colby Wallace, Adrian Areizaga, and Petey Craska pushed the Newport Gulls' lead to 5-1.

Things started to heat up in the sixth inning, and it started with one run to make it 5-2. Then Michael Elko scored in the eighth, cutting the deficit to two. Valley, down to their last three outs, Sebastian Mexico came up big and delivered the moment of the night. A clutch home run in the top of the ninth tied the game 5-5 and silenced Cardines Field.

The momentum did not stop there, though, as at the top of the 10th, Kai Cunningham scored a run to give Valley their first lead since the first inning. Reliever Jack Potteiger came in and slammed the door on the Gulls and sealed the comeback victory.

Starting pitcher Gregory Shaw started on the mound for the Sox and pitched five innings while the rest of the bullpen kept Valleu within arm's reach all night.

The win improves the Blue Sox to 13-13 and gets them back to .500 while keeping their playoff hopes alive. Valley returns home tomorrow, on Thursday night, to host the Bristol Blues at 6:35 p.m.
