North Adams, MA - The SwampBats (18-9) could not win a second consecutive game, once again, as the North Adams SteepleCats (10-14) steamrolled through all 9 innings in a 10-1 ballgame.
The game started with a quick first inning after both teams went down in order. Aydan Decker-Petty (Liberty) got his first start of the season as he was working fast. Decker-Petty had a strong first 3 innings, only allowing two runs. Though with two outs already recorded in the fourth, things got a lot more challenging as the SteepleCats rallied late to make it 5-0.
Nicholas Ramano (Florida Atlantic) was the first SwampBat to reach base with a walk in the second, but the team was held hitless until the fifth inning, where Ripken Reese (Kent State) broke through for a hit. The SwampBats were held scoreless for a majority of the ballgame after great defensive work from the SteepleCats and their pitching staff.
Jack Herring (East Carolina) got the SwampBats on the board in the seventh with a home run, making it an 8-1 game. There were still no other answers from the rest of the offense after Johnny Ruggerio Jr held the Bats in check.
Max Weber (Felician) was handed the ball in the eighth inning, and faced the minimum of 3 batters, sitting them down 1, 2, 3. Despite that, there was no rally in the ninth to follow, as the game ended 10-1.
The SwampBats are back on the road Tuesday for a matchup against the Sanford Mainers. First pitch is set for 6:30 and will be streamed on NECBL+.
