Ocean State Waves vs. Mystic Schooners

Final Score: Schooners 6, Waves 8

Mystic, CT – The Ocean State Waves capsized the Mystic Schooners 8-6 behind an 11-hit performance.

The Schooners started off the scoring with a Maddix Dalena (UConn) RBI single. The Waves took the lead in the top of the second inning.  Justin Hackett (Bryant) sacrificed an at-bat to bring home and run, and then Jack LaRose (UConn) singled to bring in another run.

The Waves added three more in the top of the third inning.  Ryan Gerety (Northeastern) took a ball yard as he added a solo home run to the stat box while a wild pitch was able to bring home Matthew Brinker (Northeastern) and  Gavin Greger (Bryant).

Martha’s Vineyard Sharks vs. Newport Gulls (Game One)

Final Score/9: Martha’s Vineyard 4, Newport 2

Newport, RI – The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks ended the Newport Gulls’ winning streak, taking down the two-time defending champs 4-2 in the first game of the Monday doubleheader. A continuation of the game from June 6th meant a nine-inning contest for this afternoon’s game one.

It was a great day for summer baseball, as the pregame festivities saw this year’s edition of NECBL Inclusion Week kick off with a yoga session followed by a kickball and wiffle ball game, with a guest appearance from Gully himself. However, Newport could not get on the board until the seventh with a Matthew Bolton (Binghamton) RBI, after Martha’s Vineyard had already put up a four-spot. Bolton added a double to cut the lead in half, but it was not enough as the Gulls fell by a final score of 4-2.

Martha’s Vineyard Sharks vs. Newport Gulls (Game Two)

Final Score/7: Newport 11, Martha’s Vineyard 1

Newport, RI – After dropping game one in a close battle, Newport stormed back with an 11-1 win over Martha’s Vineyard behind three big innings.

The Gulls scored three in the first, as Colby Wallace (East Carolina) got the big day started with an RBI double. Petey Craska (North Alabama) followed up with a two-RBI single as Newport jumped out to an early lead.

The Gulls added five more in the fourth, with Wallace and Adam Agresti (St. John’s) notching RBI hits. Craska then opened the floodgates with a three-run blast, scoring Wallace and Michael Gupton (Samford).

The final big inning came in the sixth, as Wallace and Craska scored on an error before Josh Castellani (Clemson) brought home the eleventh run on an RBI single.

The Sharks’ lone run came in the second on a sacrifice fly, as Martha’s Vineyard was unable to string anything successful together against pitchers Drew DeLucia (Austin Peay) and John Downing (Seton Hall). DeLucia picked up the win for the Gulls, striking out six through five innings, while Martha’s Vineyard’s Aidan Dowd (Fordham) was issued the loss.

The Sharks drop this one but still sit comfortably at 15-11, and look to bounce back tomorrow at 4:30 pm against the Danbury Westerners at home. Newport improves to 19-8 and travels to the Bristol Blues tomorrow for a 6:30 pm contest.
