Blues get shutout vs Keene in low scoring affair
Date: Jul 7, 2025
The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) announces the Week 5 Player & Pitcher of the Week honors, including honorable mentions for the week concluding on Sunday, July 6th.
The Sanford Mainers have swept the awards, with utility man Brendan Sencaj (Bentley) and pitcher Sam Mitchell (Alabama) taking home this week’s recognition. Both Sencaj and Mitchell have helped the Mainers to a 5-2 record last week, and are currently sitting on a three-game win streak.
Mitchell, a 6’6” right-hander from Madison, Alabama, appeared in three contests for Sanford this week as he delivered 5.2 innings with no earned runs, racking up seven strikeouts and just two hits allowed while only walking three. Mitchell was issued the win in a July 3rd contest against the North Division-leading Keene SwampBats, going 1.2 innings in relief.
In that same game against Keene, Mitchell’s teammate Sencaj had himself a day. The rising junior blasted three solo home runs en route to a 9-4 win, while also reaching base and scoring via a walk. Sencaj also had a 3-for-5 day against the North Adams SteepleCats in game one of a July 2nd doubleheader. Sencaj is currently riding a five-game hit streak, including three consecutive games of extra-base hits.
The Mainers currently sit 11-13 as they crawl their way back up the North Division standings. Currently in second place, six games behind Keene, the Mainers host the North Shore Navigators tonight at 6:30 pm, looking to extend the winning streak.
