2025 Victoria Golden Tide Season Preview

Date:  Source: Canadian College Baseball Conference

Leading off the season previews for the 2025 season is the Victoria Golden Tide, who look to bounce back after 2024. The Tide have a handful of returners that made a big impact on their team from last season that are looking to flip the script on 2024 regular season.

Rewinding a couple of years, the Tide had a strong finish in 2023 saw them lose in the Championship game against the University of Calgary. 2024 had a different result as the Tide finished 8th and exited the Canadian College World Series with two straight losses with the second loss being a close 10-9 affair against the PBA Dawgs.

Fast forward to 2025 and the Golden Tide have been working hard preparing for a rewrite starting at the end of March.

Returning are LHP Ethan Dean, RHP Jakin Rohne, catcher Jai Berezowski, first baseman Ryan Deagle, and outfielders Tyler Burton, Dominic Biello and Breydan Riecker. 3rd year bench boss Ethan Fox believes his team has a great core of upperclassmen that are hungry to improve from their last season.

Newcomers are also joining the Golden Tide, including two-way RHP/OF Brandon Burns, LHP Jon Kozak, RHP Eddie Chapman-Miles, catcher Damien Cataldo, infielder Grier Peterson, utility man Carter Simms, outfielder Kaden Raknerud, and OF/1B Nic Horn and Thomas Plant.

"This group of talented freshmen have a lot of potential." says Fox

The Golden Tide ventured down to Washington in the fall to play against Skagit Valley Community College and Everett Community College. Although they went 1-3 on the trip, they played very competitive and lost by only 1 run in each of their losses.

A north island product that will play a key role in the success of the Tide this season is RHP Jakin Rohne from Courtney, BC. "Jakin has made some huge strides this year after spending the summer with the Nanaimo Nightowls (WCL), and gained 4 ticks to his fastball velocity." says Fox

Another key player this season for the Tide is slugger Ryan Deagle from Campbell River, BC. Ryan had a massive season last year putting together a slash line of .314/.479/.533 and slugged over 1.000 while leading the league with 6 homers, and 29 RBI. "He stood out in the fall and looks to build off of last year's success." says Fox

The freshman to watch out for this year for the Tide is infielder Grier Peterson from Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.

"Grier made an instant impact on his fellow freshman with his great attitude, and said his defence stood out and has a good bat." says  Fox

Coach Fox reflected on how he feels his Golden Tide will do this season, and said: “This team is poised to make a big jump in the standings and make some noise around the CCBC this season. It’s a fun group to be around that is hungry to win!”

The Golden Tide open up the Canadian College Baseball Conference regular season on the road in Kelowna at Okanagan College.
