Wentworth exploded on Thursday night with four goals in the final period of play to give them a 5-3 victory against the Stoney Creek Tigers on home ice at the Harry Howell Arena. The game would see eight different goal scorers and no player getting more than a point in the contest.

The first 40-minutes of action only saw two goals being scored, both on the power play. It was Cole Poliziani opening the scoring in the first for the Tigers at 11:09, his second of the postseason. It remained that way until 3:30 into the second when Matt Beca potted his first of the playoffs and tie the game at one for Wentworth.

In the third, the teams combined for six goals. The Gryphins scored first on Anthony Pinelli’s first playoff goal of the season, but the lead for the home side lasted just 23 seconds as Jordan Gignac tied it at two for the Tigers. It would be Matt MacLeod that would give the Gryphins the lead once again at 7:36 of the third, a lead they would not relinquish. Dom Monardo and Perry D’Arriso would add insurance markers at 17:53 and 18:54 respectively, with D’Arriso’s being an empty netter.

Dalton Riley would get one back for Stoney Creek with 45 seconds remaining in regulation to close out the scoring.

Dawson Carty picked up the win for Wentworth, stopping 29 of 32 shots he faced in the game. Daniel Svedin took the loss, making 37 saves on the night.

The Gryphins will not be in action again until they face the Dundas Real McCoys in a home and home starting on Thursday, March 21st at the Harry Howell Arena. Stoney Creek will be back in action on Friday night when they head to the J. L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas against the Real McCoys. Game times both nights sis 7:30pm.
