Oilers inching closer to playoffs

by Lauren Petri

July 26th

The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks scored first, in the second inning, with a sacrifice fly by Kevin Duran to score Tommy Rover. The Peninsula Oilers immediately return the favor, scoring three runs in the second. None of which were earned thanks to errors by Ryan Leonesio and Duran. The Chinooks bats remained quiet for most of the game as Oilers’ pitcher William Grimm went six innings, striking out two, walking two, and only allowing the one run on four hits. The Oilers add on in the sixth with a 2-RBI single by Ty Thomas, and again in the seventh with an RBI single by Nick Costello. In the eighth, the Chinooks add on two, with an RBI walk by Tommy Rover and an RBI single by Ryan Mathiesen. It wasn’t enough to come back, and the Chinooks fall even further away from catching up to the Oilers at fourth place.

Final Score: Peninsula Oilers 6, Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 3
