A doubleheader split and the Bucs tie up the Mayors Cup

July 19th

Oh what a day. In game one, aka game two of the mayors cup, the Anchorage Bucs pull off their first win of the season against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots. Starter Cameron Crain pitched four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and only one hit allowed. Reliever Sky Wells pitched three scoreless innings with two strikeouts, two walks, and two hits allowed. The lone run of the game was brought in by Myles Smith. It was Trent Burkhalter that scored, and he reached on an error by pitcher Casey Euper. Then came game two. It was downpouring but the teams were just trying to get through five innings to have a complete game. The Pilots scored two runs in every inning that they came to the plate. Troy Harding and Elijah Rodriguez each had a 2-RBI double, Jacob Stinson had an RBI double, Andrew Lamb had an RBI single, and newcomer Garrison Berkley had a sacrifice fly. Pilots’ Ian Torpey pitched a “complete game”, pitching five innings, striking out five, walking four, and allowing one run on three hits. The Bucs’ lone run came from Logan Hokuf who reached on a single, and scored on a wild pitch. It was an odd night, but the Pilots head out to Keani for a series against the Peninsula Oilers, and the Bucs go on a roadtrip to face the Chinooks and the Miners in the next two days. In all the craziness that is the Alaska Baseball League, who knows what we’re about to see.

Final Scores:

Game 1: Anchorage Bucs 1, Anchorage Glacier Pilots 0

Game 2: Anchorage Glacier Pilots 8, Anchorage Bucs 1
