Chinooks Outlast Bucs
Garrett W. Gagnon
Tuesday, July 18
The Anchorage Bucs and Chugiak Chinooks played a wild back and forth ballgame at Lee Jordan Field on Tuesday. The Chinooks pitching allowed 10 earned runs throughout, but they managed to grind out 11 runs on offense and beat the Bucs in an upset win. The Bucs played a truly horrendous defensive game, committing 5 defensive errors in the field. Of the 11 runs that scored, just 6 of them were earned runs charged to Bucs’ pitching. The rest scored on defensive mishaps that the Chinooks certainly capitalized on. The Chinooks also outhit the Bucs, 11 hits to 5 on Tuesday. Ryan Callahan was 3 for 5 at the dish. The Bucs, who sat in first place for much of the early season, have since relinquished their top spot in the standings to the Mat Su Miners. Anchorage Bucs defense has been an issue all season and in close ballgames, it frequently hurts them.
Final score: Anchorage Bucs 10, Chugiak Chinooks 11
