Pilots shut out the Miners and take first place

by Lauren Petri

July 18th

The Anchorage Glacier Pilots’ ace, Aaron Ceniceros pitched five innings of scoreless baseball, striking out six, walking three, and allowing three hits. Reliever Tai Atkins pitched the remaining four innings, striking out three, and the only Mat Su Miner that reached during this stretch, reached on an error. The Pilots first scored in the third as Andrew Nykoluk scored on an RBI double by Blake Jackson. On the same play, an errant throw by Kaleb Hannahs allowed Elijah Rodriguez to score. They add one more in the sixth as Andrew Lamb scores on a single by Joey Wright. For the Miners, the good news is Emilio Barreras is back and he is a valuable asset to this lineup. Bad news for Pilots’ Jacob Stinson, his 7-game hitting streak comes to an end as he goes 0-3 with a fielder’s choice and a sacrifice bunt. The Miners look to get a win as they head home to face the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks, and the Pilots look to stay in first place as they face the Anchorage Bucs in a doubleheader.

Final Score: Anchorage Glacier Pilots 3, Mat Su Miners 0
