Hamilton rebounded from Sunday night’s drubbing at the hands of Wentworth with a 7-5 victory over the Gryphins on the road Thursday night.
Wentworth opened the scoring and took an early two goal lead just prior to the five-minute mark thanks to Corey Caruso and Matt Beca lighting the lamp on home ice. The Steelers then turned the tables, rattling off three straight goals from Chris Rebernik, Jordan Gignac and Andrew Whalen to take the lead to the dressing room.
The Gryphins evened the score with the man advantage just 11 seconds into the middle stanza off Matt MacLeod’s stick. However, Hamilton came back to score three more times with Michael Riley, Chris Leveille and Whalen scoring to double up Wentworth 6-3.
In the third, the Gryphins scored a pair of goals by Kyle Lewis and Marc Silvestri but Cordell James’ goal with 2:24 left in the game effectively put the game away before the hostilities started in the final minute of the game.
Riley and Leveille each had a goal and two assists while Cam Saul had three helpers for the Steelers while Lewis, Beca, Caruso and Silvestri each had a goal and an assist in the loss.
