Early Dominant Pitching Sets the Tone in SwampBats Win

WAKEFIELD — The Mystic Schooners baseball (18-11) hung on for a 6-5 win against Ocean State on Tuesday night at Old Mountain Field.
With a one run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, Mystic closer Connor Harris tossed a scoreless inning to earn his third save of the summer and give the Schooners a 4-1 lead in the regular season series against the Waves.
The Schooners jumped on the board in the third inning with an RBI single up the middle from Kevin Ferrer. Michael Bello pushed the lead to 3-1 with an RBI single into right field allowing Eddie Micheletti and Ferrer to score.
Tristan McAlister (Mt. St. Mary’s University) then extended Mystic’s lead with a bloop single into left center field scoring Bello to make it 4-1.
Charlie Pagliarini (Fairfield University) capitalized the inning for Mystic with a two-run shot to straight away centerfield to give the Schooners a 6-1 lead. For Pagliarini, it was his third home run of the summer.
Charlie McDaniel (Presbyterian College) earned his first victory of the year with 5.0 innings of work that featured a season-high nine strikeouts.
Joe Jaconski (University of North Carolina Chapel Hill) extended his hitting streak to two-game with a 2-for-4 night at the plate with one run scored.
Ferrer recorded his 10th multi-hit game of the year with a 2-for-4 night at the plate with a run and a RBI.
