STEEPLECATS SNAP LOSING STREAK; TAKE DOWN MUSKRATS 7-5

Date:  Source: North Adams SteepleCats

Laconia, NH: On Saturday, the North Adams SteepleCats took on the Winnipesaukee Muskrats in game two of two in the season series. Back at the beginning of the season, the Cats suffered a convincing loss at the hands of the Muskrats. This time around would be a little different.

Randy Reyes (Central Connecticut State) got the start for the SteepleCats, and Geoff Mosseau (Maine) did the same for the Muskrats.

In the top of the first, Tommy DiTullio (Bryant) singled, and Cedric Rose (UMASS-Lowell) walked. The pair promptly double stole, which put two runners in scoring position with only one out. The next batter, Ryan Galanie (Wofford), hit a sacrifice fly giving the Cats an early 1-0 lead.

The Muskrats quickly bounced back in the bottom of the inning. After Reyes struck out Kohl Abrams (UNC-Asheville) to open the frame, Jacob Corson (Bucknell) walked. Patrick Roche (Boston College) then hit a ground ball to third which could've been an inning-ending double play, but Galanie booted it, keeping the inning going.

Reyes then walked Brady Day (Kansas State) and Cole Palmeri (Colby College), bringing a run. Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern) hit another ground ball to third the next batter. Galanie fielded the baseball cleanly this time, but he threw the ball away, which brought home two runs, and at the end of one, the Muskrats were up 3-1.

Both teams went quietly in the second, but Rose tied the game up in the third with a two-run 340-foot home run over the high left-field wall. Rose didn't even hit the ball all that hard. He muscled it over the wall, showing how strong he is.

Randy Reyes seemed to settle in over the next few innings, and the Cats tacked on three more in the fifth. Hunter Pasqualini (Central Connecticut State) and DiTullio singled to open the inning.

Rose then crushed one over the head of the center fielder Brenda Concannon (Paris Junior College) for one of the longest RBI singles you'll ever see. The next batter, Alex Lane (Northeastern), doubled down the left-field line, bringing in DiTullio and Rose.

In the bottom of the inning, Reyes allowed a long home run to Palmeri, which cut the lead to two. North Adams got the run back in the next half-inning. DiTullio singled home Carson Dunkel (Albany) to bring the score to 7-5 in favor of the Cats.

In the bottom of the sixth, Grayson Preslarr (UNC-Asheville), who pinch-hit for Sebastian Mueller (Quinnipiac), led off the frame with a solo shot to right field. After six, the score was 7-5.

Gerry Peacock (Notre Dame) entered the game in the seventh and shut the Winnipesaukee offense down the rest of the way. The Cats emerged victorious for their sixth win of the season.

The strongest performance of the night came from Cedric Rose, who went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Randy Reyes recorded his first win of the season, and Peacock came away with a nine-out save.

The SteepleCats will be back at it again tonight in Holyoke, Massachusetts, against the Valley Blue Sox. Cohen Nies (Defiance) will start on the mound for the Cats, and Jared Kuryan (Western New England) will do the same for the Sox. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
