On the second day of the Brick Tournament in Edmonton, Team Pennsylvania faced a tough challenge with a doubleheader against the Connecticut Jr. Bruins and Toronto Bulldogs. Despite a loss early in the day to Connecticut, Team PA played a great game and narrowly lost to Toronto to wrap up the second day of action.
Despite the loss to Toronto, Justin Saulnier was again sensational in net, making 24 saves.
"CJR was flying and unfortunately we weren't at our best," said Coach Edwards after the game. "Our goaltender did his part to keep us in the game but we just couldn't grab any momentum and it got away from us. This tournament can be very humbling when you're not at your best. We will need to play with more desperation to have success."
In the second half of the doubleheader against the Toronto Bulldogs, Matteo Georgy found the back of the net with assists from D'Angelo Fluhme and Cameron Pelle to knot the score at one midway through the third period. Unfortunately, Toronto found the game winning goal with a shade under 3 minutes left in regulation to claim the 2-1 victory.
Once again, Justin Saulnier was a star in net, this time making 19 saves.
"We got off to a slow start but Justin Saulnier was outstanding again keeping it close after 1," said Coach Edwards following the game. "The second and third periods were the two best we have played here. All 3 lines were flying which is what we need to have success. We had them pinned for long periods of time and were generating chances consistently. While we ultimately came up short late in the game, it was awesome to see the boys show the fight that we need in our game. If we bring that again tomorrow we will find the win column."
The final day of preliminary round play is Friday (July 1) with Team PA matching up with the Western Selects at 7:30am MT/9:30am ET and Toronto Pro Hockey at 8:50pm MT/10:50pm ET. Good luck to the boys from the Keystone State!
