Mystic falls to Keene 3-2

NORWICH - The Mystic Schooners baseball team suffered its second straight loss of the season Friday night, falling to Keene by a score of 3-2 at Dodd Stadium. 

 

Keene got out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first after infielder Dan Covino (Central Connecticut State University) scored infielder Tony Santa Maria (Rutgers) on an RBI double. 

 

Then in the bottom of the second, Mystic responded back with two runs to take the lead at 2-1. Infielder Stanton Leuthner registered an RBI on a sacrifice fly while infielder Cole Singsank scored on a wild pitch. 

The Swamp Bats plated two runs across the sixth and seventh innings to retake the lead at 3-2. 

Mystic threatened in both the bottom of the eighth and ninth but were unable to bring anything around. 

 

With the loss the Schooners fall to 1-2 on the season. 

 

Game Notes:

 

Senior right handed pitcher Jake Noviello (Fairfield) went 5.0 IP allowing five hits, two runs, two walks while recording five strikeouts in his first start of the season.

 

Junior outfielder Tristian McAlister (Mt. St. Mary’s)  finished 2-for-4 on the night with a walk. 

 

Junior right handed pitcher Jonathan Velazquez (Stetson University) was steller out of the bullpen in his first appearance of the season, throwing two scoreless 1-2-3 innings while striking out two.

 

Junior infielder Addison Kopack extended his hitting streak to three games. The URI Ram finished 2-for-4 on the night.
