MYSTIC - The Mystic Schooners kicked off the 2022 NECBL campaign with a 6-2 win over North Shore on Tuesday evening at Dodd Stadium.

Junior left handed pitcher Charlie McDaniel (Presbyterian College) provided the Schooners with a strong start on the mound going five innings allowing just one hit while recording four strikeouts.

North Shore struck first in the top of the sixth, putting up two runs off of a fielded error on a bunt from Jake Bertsch and a double from Jake McEllroy. Mystic responded back in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly from senior infielder Charlie Pagliarini (Fairfield University) to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Schooners worked a five-run bottom half of the eighth inning with Navigators fielding error to first bring home senior infielder Stanton Leuthner (Stony Brook University) to tie the game at 2-2. Then Mystic took advantage of two more North Shore errors, a wild pitch and two fielder’s choices to take a 6-2 lead into the ninth.

After the first two batters of the inning got on base, sophomore left hander Reid Easterly (Yale University) finished the ninth with three straight strikeouts to secure the 6-2 win for the #SchoonSquad.
