MYSTIC - The New England Collegiate League announced its schedule for the 2022 season Friday morning, a slate which includes 22 home games for the Mystic Schooners.
The Schooners will kick-off the 44-game summer season at their newly announced home of Dodd Stadium on Tuesday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. against the North Shore Navigators. Mystic will play five of its first seven games at home with road games at Newport June 8 and Danbury June 11.
Home games in 2022 will include four games on Fridays, three on Thursdays, two on Saturdays and two on Sundays.
Home matchups in 2022 are scheduled to begin this year at 6:30 p.m. The expectations are 12 p.m. starts on June 9 and 23, as well as July 3, 10, 23 and 24 to accommodate the Norwich Sea Unicorn schedule. There also will be 4 p.m. starts on Sun. June 12 and Sun. July 3.
Additionally there is a scheduled 3 p.m. start on Sun. June 26 as the Schooners will play a scheduled double-header against the Newport Gulls. Game two is set for a 6 pm first pitch.
This season, the NECBL has announced a three division league with the creation of the Coastal Division. The Schooners have been placed in the newly formed division and will play alongside Martha’s Vineyard, Newport, North Shore and Ocean State.
The Schooners will face Newport and Ocean State seven times while matching up with Martha’s Vineyard and North Shore on six occasions. Mystic will play every out-of-division (North and West Division) squad twice apiece to account for the full 44-game schedule.
Additionally, the 2022 NECBL All-Star Game will be held on Sunday, July 24 in Oak Bluffs, home of the Sharks.
In the final week of the season, each of the league’s 14 teams will play solely against division rivals in hopes of qualifying for the 2022 NECBL Playoffs, which will feature six teams (the three division winners and three wildcards who have the next three highest winning percentages league-wide after the division winners).
The division winners with the top-two regular season winning percentages will earn first-round byes, while the third division winner will battle the wildcard team with the lowest win percentage, and the wildcard teams with the best and second-best win percentages will also face off in a single-elimination wildcard round matchup.
With the move to Dodd Stadium, the Schooners are excited to announce that they will be hosting theme nights along with events throughout the season. A full promotion schedule will be announced at a later date.
