Gulls Split Doubleheader with Sharks
Date: Jul 8, 2025
Box Score/ Summary
Sanford, ME – Yet another game, yet another low scoring battle. The North Adams SteepleCats found themselves in a familiar spot Friday night. Locked in a 2-2 tie through 9, the Cats grabbed the lead in the 10th. An out away from victory the Sanford Mainers came through with back to back hits to take it in a 4-3 thriller.
Luke Benneche started for the Cats and gave up 2 runs in 3 innings. Innings 4-9 were dominant for the Cats pitching staff as Sam Bennent and Emmanuel Corporan combined for 6 shutout innings only allowing 1 combined hit. The pair retired 14 in a row combined.
Garrett Keough got the start for Sanford and allowed 2 runs in 3 innings. The Sanford bullpen was also on point at Matt Aronson, Trevor LaBonte and Gavin Hinchcliffe combined for 7 innings of 1 run ball.
Key Moments
Following an RBI HBP by Charles Middleton, Jeremy scored on a wild pitch to give the Cats a 2-0 lead.
Dayne Leonard evened the score in the 3rd with a 2 run single of Benneche.
Braden Barry gave the Cats the lead in the 10th with his first hit of the summer, an RBI single to left.
Aidan Wilde gunned down the tying run at home with 1 out in the 10th but a Cam Ridley RBI single off of Cory Bosecker tied the game, and a Dom Freeberger single off of Jake Cubbler won it for the Mainers.
How it happened
Jeremy Lea got the 3rd innings going with an RBI double. The 3rd inning threat ended on a strikeout and caught stealing following the 2 runs.
The Cats had the lead off runner reach base 6 times in 10 innings.
Wilde paced the offense reaching base 3 times on the night.
Coach Dailey’s Thoughts: “That was a tough game to lose, but I’d much rather lose like that than be noncompetitive. Each team made enough plays to win the game, they just made an extra one to win it.”
Next Time Out: The Cats return to the field Sunday. They travel to Lynn, MA to take on the North Shore Navigators. Matt Semon is the probable starter. First pitch is at 4 PM.
