(Spearfish, SD) – The Spearfish Sasquatch of the Expedition League signed four more key pieces to their 2021 squad over the past couple of weeks. Jacob Sanchez & R.J. Galvan from the University of Texas Rio Grand Valley and Nicky Winterstein & Trace Hatfield from the University of Toledo. 

C/CIF – Jacob Sanchez – San Juan, TX
Jacob is a two-sport athlete (Baseball & Football) from San Juan, TX where he earned first-team all-district honors in both sports his senior year. Over his last two years he hit .352 with an on-base percentage of .454. He is a freshman at the University of Texas Rio Grand Valley this year where he will get time as catcher and the two corner infield positions.

OF – R.J. Galvan – Alice, TX
R.J. is a left-hand hitting outfielder who is a sophomore at the University of Texas Rio Grand Valley. He attended Laredo College his freshman year where he went on to hit .346 with 23 RBI, 26 Runs and 7 SB to earn an invite to the NJCAA Region 5 All-Star Showcase Game. 

LHP/OF – Nicky Winterstein – Columbia, SC
At Cardinal Newman High School he hit .449, posted a .563 on-base percentage, scored 29 runs, and stole 18 bases as a senior. Nicky was a two-time baseball all-state selection (2015 and 2016) while also earning all-state honors in football and wrestling. Nicky also excelled in wresting, winning two individual state wrestling championships (2014 and 2015). Prior to the University of Toledo, Nicky played at NCAA Division II Francis Marion University.In 2020, he appeared in nine games for the Rockets, five as a position player and four as a pitcher, totaling 10.1 innings on the mound, striking out seven while going 3-for-7 at the plate, all three hits went for extra bases (two doubles, one triple).

INF – Trace Hatfield – Fredericktown, OH
A 2017 graduate of Fredericktown High School, Trace was names first-team all-conference, conference player of the year, first-team all-district, and first-team all-Ohio his junior year sporting a .556 batting average, 1.104 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage. For the Toledo Rockets in 2018, Trace hit .286 in 52 games, making 49 starts between third, first, and second base and earned MAC Player of the Week (April 23). In ’19 he started 35 games hitting .272 and driving in 21 runs and had an 11-game hitting streak.  In 2020, Trace started all 16 games at third base. He hit .293 (16-for-58) with eight RBIs and ended the year on a seven-game hitting streak; five of those games were multi-hit efforts.
