2018 PITCHER OF THE YEAR SIGNS WITH OAKLAND ATHLETICS


SAN FRANCISCO — 2018 Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs Pitcher of the Year Jared Koenig signs with the Oakland Athletics. The Aptos, California native held a 11-1 record with a 3.54 ERA when he received the honors. The lefty also set a Pacific Association record with 140 strikeouts in just 96.2 innings pitched.

Koenig was originally drafted in the 35th round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft by the Chicago White Sox out of Central Arizona College, but elected to stay in college. After two seasons at Central Arizona College, Koenig transferred to Old Dominion, members of Conference USA. However his time for the Monarchs was short lived  and then finished up his collegiate career at CS Monterey Bay, Koenig’s college totals consisted of a 14-2 record with a 4.63 ERA in 104 innings with 133 strikeouts. Throughout Koenig’s professional career, he has now played in the Pecos League, American Association, Pacific Association, Frontier League and Australian League before finally getting his first affiliated opportunity with the Oakland Athletics. Koenig will be turning 26 later next January.  

In 2019, Koenig played with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League where he continued his success with a 7-2 record with a 2.24 ERA in 104.1 innings and 133 strikeouts where he once again led the league in strikeouts. The former CS Monterey Bay alumnus is currently pitching the the Australian Baseball League (AUBL) for the Auckland Tuatara. He’s currently teammates with former Martinez Clippers standout Kent Blackstone. For the Tuatara, Koenig is currently 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched.
