HUBBARD SIGNED BY PADRES


Dondrei Hubbard, a right- handed utility player out of Georgia, is signing with the San Diego Padres. The 24-year old played in both the Pacific Association and Frontier League during the 2019 season. 

The Mayville State alumnus had plenty of success in his first season of independent league play. Hubbard won the 2019 Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs Gilded Glove award at the center fielder position for the Sonoma Stompers. After joining the Lake Erie Crushers in August, Hubbard contributed towards their playoff push. 

Before joining the Crushers, Hubbard was leading the Pacific Association in home runs (16), runs batted in (55) and batting average (.364).

Hubbard, a two-sport athlete at Mayville State played both baseball and football. During Hubbard's senior season, he held a .388 average with 11 home runs, 18 doubles and 60 RBIs. He also spent time as the teams starting running back and punter.  

Hubbard is the 20th player to be signed to an affiliated contract from the Pacific Association since the 2014 season. He is the first position player singed since Chaz Meadows in 2016. The Pacific Association currently has seven players in the MiLB and one in the MLB, Red Sox pitcher Chris Mazza.
