Saul, Johnson Continue to Shine Through Week 10

New Bedford – The Danbury Westerners dropped two heartbreaking games to the New Bedford Bay Sox on Wednesday. In game one of the day, Joe Vail pitched into the fifth inning but left trailing 4-3. With no one out in the top of the seventh inning, Lyndon Weaver pinch ran for Alex Baratta, who singled up the middle. With Isiah Daubon at the plate, Weaver attempted the steal second. Daubon roped a base hit into left field. Weaver, who was sent by manager Josh Parrow was thrown out at the plate. Danbury would be unable to score Daubon, losing the game 4-3.
In game two, Brian Rodriguez owned the mound, pitching into the seventh inning with a 4-2 lead. With two outs, he hit a batter, bringing up Jesse Winkler, who saw the count go to 3-1 before launching a game-tying, two-run home run over the left field fence. The game would go into extra innings, where New Bedford would complete the comeback with a walk-off three-run home run to beat the Westerners 7-4, sweeping the doubleheader.
Danbury looks to regroup and welcome the Mystic Schooners for a meeting in Danbury Thursday night at 6:30.
