Danbury – Danbury’s bats woke up in game two of a Saturday doubleheader, pounding 21 hits and smashing four home runs to take down the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 16-11. After being held scoreless through six innings of game one, Danbury wasted no time, scoring five times in the bottom of the second. They then again scored four more in the third and two more in the fourth to open up a 11-4 lead after four innings.

On the pitching side, Justin Campbell held the Sharks in check in his outing, allowing only four runs in four innings while striking out seven. Following his departure, Martha’s Vineyard closed the gap to 11-6 against reliever Corey Imbriano. However, Danbury would answer in the bottom of the fifth with a solo run to keep the comfortable lead.

Danbury added one more run in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the bottom of the eighth and the Westerners pitching staff held on to split their doubleheader and climb one game over .500.

“I pulled the guys together before the second game and I let them know how important this game was,” said manager Josh Parrow. “They consider themselves the top team in the league. At one point, we were the top team in the league. There’s no love lost there.”

The Westerners look to expand on this win Sunday evening when they travel to Massachusetts to face off with the North Adams Steeplecats, who sit atop the Northern Division of the NECBL.
