Inaugural season will feature top talent

GLENDALE, Calif. – July 20, 2012 – The Glendale Angelenos, of the California
Collegiate Summer League (CCSL), have established themselves as one of the best
summer collegiate baseball teams in the Nation. With players from Division I, II, and III
schools as well as top Junior Colleges, the Angelenos have a record of 32 wins and 8
losses (.800 winning percentage).
The Angelenos began play May 29th, competing against teams from the California
Collegiate League, Southern California Collegiate Baseball League, Central Coast
League, and independents teams from all over California. The Angelenos showcase one
of the countries top batting averages at .325, 39 Home Runs, OBP .415 and a SLG % of
.491. The Pitching staff boast a team ERA of 2.80, while holding opponents to a .208
BAA. Corey Popham (Pacific University) has a team best ERA of 0.90 while Ace
Thomas Korn remains undefeated with a 1.25 ERA.
Edgar Montes, a sophomore center fielder at Glendale Junior College (CA), has led the
Angelenos offensively batting a team high of .437 while Sako Chapjian (Lewis-Clark
State) leads the team in home runs (10), RBIs (28), and OBP (.449). “Sako remains one
of the strongest college bats in the country with several multiple home run games this
summer” added head coach and general manager Tony Riviera. Riviera, a former MLB
Scout leads the Angelenos assisted by former major leaguer Andres Perez Thomas.

Six Angelenos were selected and signed in this years 2012 MLB First Year Player Draft.
The top Angeleno pick was RHP Alex Muren (Cal State Northridge), who was selected
in the 12th round by the Minnesota Twins.
Several top schools including USC, UNLV, Oregon, Fresno State, Chico State, and
Vanguard University have offered several Angeleno players athletic scholarships this
summer.
The Angelenos wrap up their season July 31st.
