Danbury – Derek Duffy would dominate the New Bedford lineup and the offense continue to roll as the Westerners ran away with the 9-3 victory over the Bay Sox.

After consistently scoring throughout game one of the doubleheader, Danbury wasted no time in getting on the board in game two. After Justin Jordan flied out to centerfield to begin the bottom of the first, Alex Baratta singled, Sonny Uliana doubled, and Caleb Upshaw walked to load the bases with one out. Vinny Bailey would drive in the first run with a sacrifice fly and Cam Masterman followed Bailey with a two-run single to finish a three-run first for the home team.

They would push across another run in the bottom of the second on a Jack McCarthy sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 before the floodgates opened in the third. Behind the strength of two home runs from Upshaw and Alex Bello, the Westerners would head into the fourth inning leading 7-0.

That was all the support starting pitcher Derek Duffy would need. He would cruise through the New Bedford lineup through the first three innings before allowing his first baserunner with one out in the fourth inning. He would go 5.1 innings allowing just one hit while striking out five.

“The biggest thing is knowing I have a great defense behind me,” said Duffy. “Just trusting them and throwing stirkes and letting them make the outs.”

Corey Imbriano would finish the final 1.2 innings to close out the victory. The Westerners, who now improve to 11-4 have now won six of their last seven games and continue to cruise over the course of the past two weeks.

“We’ve been carrying the mindset we’ve had since day one,” said manager Josh Parrow. “They’ve been showing up to the park early to do their early work and I’ve started to see that everyone show up for their early work. As a head coach, you have to be really happy.”

They look to continue their hot streak as they continue their string of six games in five days Sunday evening when they travel to South Kingston, Rhode Island for a rematch against the Ocean State Wave.
