Martha's Vineyard - The Westerners bats woke up in a big way as they bounced back with a 10-5 victory over the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks.

The Sharks manufactured their first run of the evening courtesy of a walk, an error, and a single to take the early 1-0 after two innings.

Danbury would respond in the top of the third after Caleb Upshaw and Justin Jordan reached on back to back singles, with Jordan’s being a beautifully placed bunt. Both would steal to put runners at second and third for Alex Barata, who would poke a single and drive in Upshaw to tie the game.

Martha’s Vineyard answered in the bottom half of the inning. Following a nearly 7 hour adventure to the Island, it appeared that Danbury was a bit sluggish. After a single, back to back errors by Matt Zeffino and Vinny Bailey set up an infield single to retake the lead.

Danbury would put their foot down and erupt in the middle innings. Danbury would score the next 8 runs over the fifth and sixth innings, highlighted by a two run homer by newcomer Sonny Ulliana.

From there, it was easy sailing for the Westerners, who needed a boat and a bus to return to Connecticut. The win went to Joe Mancini, who pitched five innings in his final start for Danbury.

The Westerners get a day off before welcoming Newport to Danbury Tuesday evening.
