The Illinois State Redbirds welcome Mitchell Oberlag to the family! Oberlag, a 5’10” 170 lb forward hails from Edwardsville, IL. Last season, he split time with Edwardsville High School team and Carshield AAA.

Oberlag carries on a family tradition at Illinois State, following in his parents footsteps to become a Redbird. He intends to major in Criminal Justice. His dad has been his favorite coach and biggest supporter.

One of his favorite memories is scoring a hat trick to beat Lake Central 3-1. If Mitchell could be any animal, he would choose an eagle.(He meant Redbird) He chose an eagle because they can soar high above to new levels.

“Mitchell has shown good poise with the puck and a knack for finding the right areas on the ice. He has accepted challenges in stride and looks to prove himself, earning his playing time. We look forward to seeing Mitchell grow in our organization and do great things for us in the future.” -D1 Head Coach Bobby DiNardi.

The Redbirds are building to make a run at their first ACHA D1 conference title in 2019-2020, as they join the Midwest College Hockey conference. It is the first year of the conference with a handful of new teams to ACHA D1. For more information on the conference, click here.
