Meet the Players Volume 3, Episode 1: Ben Brody

Date:  Source: Dartmouth Club Hockey

Benjamin "Civil-Ben-Gang" Brody has faced a ton of adversity this year. From getting ruthlessly chirped by the media and in the locker room for his beard that can only be explained by what must be some sort of a societal statement, to not winning a single game in the team's ping pong tournament, the kid has struggled in his first year, but has shown tons of resiliency - and that's what being a club hockey player is all about.

[Pax]: Hey Ben, hope you saw some cool leaves or something on your spring break trip. Well, let's jump right into it - what’s your favorite mountain to hike?

- [Ben]: Franconia Ridge. It’s a classic.

That's really cool man, do they actually have a ridge over there or is that just for like tourist effect or something? What kind of electric scooter would you use if you lived in San Francisco?

- Definitely Lime

These are normally more discussion based, so the quick 2-word responses aren't really gonna cut it. Where were you when you found out you got into Dartmouth?

- Fun story actually... Decisions came out at 4pm and we had hockey practice from 3-5, so I was on the ice in a massive huddle with all of my teammates when I opened the email

That is a fun story. A couple of questions though. One, was nobody else on your team applying to college? Why were you the only one that had their college decision announced right then? Two, did you have your phone on the bench the whole time or something? And three, was your coach in the middle of running a battle drill or something and was just like "up yep its 3:59 boys, let's go check Benny's college application"? Nah, I'm just messing with you, that's awesome. Anyways, what’s your favorite tree on campus?

- All of them, man. You can’t pick one type of nature. It’s all sacred.

Yeah but I didn't ask about a "type" of nature, I said do you have a specific tree you like. You’ve been known to be ambidextrous at some sports, are you planning on doing so in hockey?

- I’m gonna leave the ambidextrous athleticism to ping pong, although I would totally mix in some goalie and play with Trauner’s lefty stuff.

Probably a good call, I wonder how you'd do at goalie compared to the guys this year. If you were going to be a lizard, would you be a city lizard or a forest lizard?

- Forest lizard. Easy.

City lizards are pretty cool though, like the Geico guy - always humming around with his great energy. How many iPhone chargers do you own?

-Three: one in my bag, one by my bed, and one extra in case I lose one

That shows me that you're a good planner, be sure to tell job interviewers that fact. What’s your second favorite genre of music, and why?

- Country music, because my favorite type is “anything that’s not EDM”

Let's make sure Jack "Two Friends' Third Friend" Mascali doesn't read this. Do you mow your lawn at home? What kind of lawnmower do you use? John Deere? Black + Decker?

Can’t say I do that...

That doesn't even make sense in response to what I said. I'm gonna assume some sort of language barrier there. What state do you think has the coolest flag?

- Easily NH... live free or die, man

I don't think that saying has any influence on how cool the flags are, and I also don't think their flag even has any mention of that. How many pillows do you sleep with?

- Two. Unless I’m camping, then I just use a sweater

Smart, smart so you don't own any pillows then? Would you rather spend a year without talking or a year that you had to shave every day?

- Year without talking. I can’t shave the beard

I think the average human says like 8,000 words per day or something so you're giving up almost 3 million words (I feel like some of those words could have some serious impact on something out there). How many windows do you think there are in the town of Hanover?

- 7

Good thing this isn't a video interview because I'm awful at faking laughs for bad jokes so I probably would have made you look really bad after that one. What’s your pizza place of choice in town?

- Probably Ramunto’s, although none of the pizza in Hanover is great

I think most would agree, but I heard some psychos walking around the other day saying that mid-day Domino's is the best pizza in town. What’s the most important shower accessory (robe, sandals, caddy, etc)?

- Definitely the shower shoes. Can’t be getting any foot fungus from Crawdad

That's all we've got from Ben, a short and concise guy who probably had to get back to making a documentary about living in a bus in the forest for a year, so was pressed for time. Stay tuned as we have some more content dropping later this week.
