HANOVER, NH – The Big Green coaching staff announced late Tuesday night that the new captains of the team for the remainder of the 2018-2019 season will be Chris McCorkle, and Ian Frey. McCorkle will wear the “C”, while Frey will serve as the lone alternate captain. The news of new on-ice leadership comes as no surprise, as the captains from the fall semester are all off-campus this semester, leaving the roles to be filled. McCorkle, a junior on the team, sported the “A” his sophomore year and is excited to jump back into the captain role for the rest of this year. “It’s obviously a great honor to be able to help lead the boys on and off the ice, and I’m excited to be able to contribute in any way that will help get the guys motivated and all working in the same direction”, McCorkle says about his feelings towards the new role. Frey, the lone senior on the squad this year, is also excited to be stepping into a leadership role to help guide the young core into future success in line with the high expectations surrounding the team. Frey is “looking forward to being the next Scott Bohn” referring to the team’s co-captain goaltender from last season, a close friend of Frey’s. Head coach Gary Smith, who made the announcement following the team’s practice last night, is confident that the pair will be able to lead the team in the right direction. “We are very excited to have Chris “C” and Ian “A” as Captains for us this Winter. Chris and Ian took on important roles and increased responsibilities for our team both on and off the ice this fall and stepped as leaders in many different aspects. Both players are extremely deserving of this and will be looked upon to help keep the program moving in the right direction.” With a shortened second half, the new leaders are looking mainly to help steer the team in the right direction for the upcoming season. The team faces off against Norwich on January 26, so the team will look to continue to sharpen up in the meantime.
