ELKVILLE, IL - The Hannibal Hoots have inked a deal with Eastern Illinois University junior, Alex Stevenson, a 6'0", 188 pound, two-way player from Ballwin, Missouri.

A 2016 graduate from Lutheran South High School in Ballwin, Missouri, where he was a two-way player that earned All-Metro League honors as a senior. He hit .300 for his prep career with a solid junior season that included ten doubles and three home runs. He pitched over 20 innings in each of his three varsity season with a sub 2.00 ERA as a starter and reliever.

In 2017, his freshman season at EIU, Stevenson made 22 appearances with three starts on the mound as a true freshman for the Panthers. He finished his first year with a record of 4-4 with a 7.53 ERA.

Following his freshman season in college, Stevenson played for the Danville Dans in the Prospect League in 2017. He appeared in five games for the Dans as a pitcher, all in relief, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA with one save. He gave up six hits, while striking out six and walking four in six innings on the mound.

Stevenson played in 10 games and racked up 34 at-bats as a position player. He hit .324 with four doubles, no home runs and three RBI and scoring four runs for Danville.

This past season, as a pitcher, Stevenson posted a 3-8 won-loss record with a 6.45 ERA and one save for the Panthers, Stevenson got limited playing time in the field, playing in ten games for EIU but only getting nine at-bats, finished the year with a slash line of .111/.111/.111 and a .222 OPS.

He played summer ball in the Northwoods League this past summer with a temporary contract with the Lakeshore Chinooks, where his college coaches wanted him to work on his hitting. He played very well in his limited opportunity, he hit .319 (15-for-47) in 16 games and stole eight bases.

In Stevenson, the Hoots are getting a very versatile player with a plus arm and speed, who can pitch and play on the infield and anywhere in the outfield.
