Scouting Report: Hoots Armory

Date:  Source: Hannibal Baseball

In nearly two months of play, the Hannibal Hoots have put several talented starting pitchers on display. These six arms have set the tone for the Hoots and have shown incredible talent and versatility. In today’s scouting report, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Hoots’ Armory:

Randall Coxwell - RHP 6’5” 215 lbs.

OT RHP. Creates leverage velocity at the bottom of the zone with FB 88-91. Does have ability to create sink and arm side run. Controls arm side of the plate. Sinker/Slider mix. Slider does show shape and spin, 75-79 with depth. CH continues to improve, 78-80 w/ depth. Projectable body and arm swing. Highly competitive motor. Heavy FB and two secondary pitches create ground balls throughout appearances.

Dylan Dodd - LHP 6’2” 215 lbs.

Dylan is a H 3/4 LHP with FB velocities of 88-91. Will show low 90s on occasion. Creates movement in the zone with FBs. FB/Slider mix to both RHH and LHHs. Repeatable in his delivery and in sync. Short arm action with above average arm speed. Slider is a swing and miss pitch at this time. CH has depth and creates similar movement late in zone to RHHs. Has the ability to elevate with the FB for swing and misses. Athletic frame, very projectable.

Dalton Overstreet - RHP 6’4” 200 lbs.

Dalton has a tremendous ceiling. Lean and athletic, with raw arm speed and strength. OT RHP creates leverage velocity and a tough hitting angle on hitters. His CB is 12/6 with right spin. His command of the pitch continues to improve throughout the season. When in and at the bottom of the zone, a swing and miss pitch. Repeatability and presence have improved. Once in sync and on time will be dominant. High follow.

Dylan Marble - RHP 6’1” 175 lbs.

Dylan throws from a 3/4 slot with a sinker/slider mix. Very repeatable with his delivery and shows flashes of a ground ball machine. Sinkers to middle and arm side create soft contact on the infield. FBs 86-89 w/ movement and sink. Slider does show promise at 76-79. Spin and depth continue to improve. Consistent release points on secondary pitches will aid to development. Shows real feel for CH 79-82 w/ depth. Does keep both RHH and LHHs off balance with three pitch mix. Quick arm action from angle creates deception in the zone. Continued physical maturation will only help shorten the gap between his performances this summer and what he is capable of long term.

Dylan Chisholm - LHP 5’10” 180 lbs.

Dylan shows remarkable pitchability. Any pitch, in any count. FB at 80-84. Uses two FBs and can elevate with four seam. FB creates movement arm side that is more lateral at this time. Creates weak contact in FB counts as the ball gets on guys faster than the gun would suggest. All knees and elbows in the delivery makes for a small window for hitters. The CB is big with 12/6 shape. A pitch used for command rather than swing and miss. The SL shows depth and spin at the bottom of the zone. Uses both pitches to RHH and LHHs. The CH shows promise, -10 to -15 mph from the FB keeps hitters guessing. Commands both sides of the plate. Longer loose arm action, that’s repeatable.

Victor Gotay - RHP 6’2” 170 lbs.

Victor has the makings of a very talented young arm. RHP lean and athletic. H 3/4 slot loose and firm. Repeatability a concern at this time, shows flashes when confident. FB/SL mix to both RHH and LHHs. Athletic build would suggest that development will happen quickly. Closed front foot and violent hips project for a high velocity follow. SL has depth and spin, lacks consistent command. The CH is a work in progress. Will compliment his movement fastball once a pitch of command.
