It was a great week for the Hannibal Hoots. Wins on the road in Danville and Springfield were bolstered by a huge Thursday 10-2 win for the Hoots over the Springfield Sliders.
It was the Hannibal Regional Hospital Night of Hope at Clemens Field on Thursday. The Hoots welcomed cancer survivors, current patients, and the staff members of Hannibal Regional Foundation, Hannibal Regional Infusion Center and the James E. Cary Cancer Center. The evening's guests of honor were cancer survivors and their families in attendance.
Winning pitcher Randall Coxwell paced the Hoots defensively on the day, pitching 7.2 stellar innings. He finished the day with five strikeouts thrown while only giving up two runs on five hits. Relief pitcher Zach Gibbs finished Springfield off, allowing just one hit in his 1.1 innings played.
Five runs in the opening three stanzas helped Hannibal jump out to an early 5-0 cushion. Springfield made things interesting with two single-run homers that narrowed the Hoots' margin 5-2. However, a dominant seventh inning for Hannibal, highlighted by DH Dylan Dodd's grand slam over the right field fence, propelled the Hoots to the eventual final score of 10-2.
The Hoots now find themselves at 7-17 on the season thus far on tailwind of a three-game win streak.
After a much-deserved rest day for the players on Friday, the Hoots will be back in action at home against Springfield on Saturday night before traveling to Danville Sunday afternoon. The Hoots welcome you to join them Saturday for the first General Mills Night at Clemens Field; we hope to see you there.
