Big Green Back on Track Heading into Winter Break
Date: Nov 16, 2022
Game #14 - Dartmouth 3, Harvard 7
Philadelphia, PA - after a whirlwind of a weekend, the Dartmouth Men's Club Hockey team finished just shy of their first ever Ivy League title, finishing second in the tournament.
The game started out in Dartmouth's favor, with Emerson Mahoney scoring two goals early in the first period to give Dartmouth a 2-0 lead. The Harvard coaching staff made a bold decision, and pulled their starting goalie after just two goals. The move seemed to work, however, as the Crimson surged for 3 goals in only 4 minutes. Play sizzled out for the remainder of the frame, and Harvard led 3-2 after the first.
In the second period, Harvard was able to continue their momentum swing, and add two more goals to their lead, including a goal with only 7 seconds left in the second period, giving them a 5-2 lead.
The Big Green attempted to battle back into the game in the third, but any momentum they built was thwarted by penalties. Finally, with 5 minutes left in the game, Sam Forstner found Chris McCorkle on the power play, who was able to bury his 6th goal of the season, cutting the Harvard lead to only 2. Less than a minute later, however, Harvard answered with a goal of their own, giving them a confident 6-3 lead. The Big Green pulled goalie Oscar Flory for a 6-5 attempt, which was not successful and ended in an additional Harvard goal, sealing the game at 7-3.
Although it was certainly not the outcome the team was looking for, the Big Green still hold a strong 3-1 record this semester. The Big Green take on St. Anselm's this Saturday in NECHA conference play.
